Visit of the Ambassadors of Armenia and the Netherlands to Almelo

On July 28, Mr. Tigran Balayan, Ambassador of Armenia to the Netherlands and Mr. Niko Schermers,newly appointed Ambassador of the Netherlands to Armenia visited the Armenian-populated city of Almelo.

At the Armenian Apostolic Church in Almelo the Ambassadors met with the members of the church council, headed by the chairman of the church council Onik Geliji, the leaders of the structures attached to the church, the Sunday school and the choir.

Welcoming the series of Ambassador Schermers meetings with Dutch-Armenian organizations at the Armenian Church in Almelo, Tigran Balayan stressed that it can turn into an interesting tradition, in particular before leaving for Armenia, foreign ambassadors meet with the Armenian communities of their countries to discuss joint projects and to get acquainted with their plans and expectations. "As far as I know, before this initiative only the newly appointed US ambassadors to Armenia used to meet with representatives of Armenian community structures before leaving for Armenia, so this experience can be exemplary for our partners in European countries",- said Ambassador Balayan.

Afterwards, Ambassadors Balayan and Schermers toured the church and the surrounding area, and then met with representatives of Almelo, Homenetmen, AGBU, ARS, and the Armenian National Committee of the Netherlands.

The Ambassador of the Netherlands was introduced to the history of the Armenian community of Almelo, its activities, its contribution to the development of the city.

In Almelo, the ambassadors also had a discussion with the members of the Almelo-Etchmiadzin Cooperation Committee.

The meeting with the Armenian businessmen of Almelo was also on the agenda of the ambassadors, during which they exchanged views on the ways of doing business in Armenia and the support of the embassies in that issue.
