Armenia-Luxembourg Friendship Group of the National Assembly of Armenia is in Luxembourg on an official visit

02 February, 2022

On January 31, at the invitation of the Speaker of Parliament of Luxembourg the official visit of Armenia-Luxembourg Friendship Group to Luxembourg began.

The Head of the Friendship Group Sona Ghazaryan, deputies Tsovinar Vardanyan, Arusyak Julhakyan and Arman Yeghoyan met with the President of the Chamber of Deputies of Luxembourg Fernand Etgen.

Sona Ghazaryan thanked the President of the Chamber of Deputies of Luxembourg for unanimously adopted resolutions by the Parliament of Luxembourg on October 15, on December 24, 2020 and on November 10, 2021.

According to the resolutions, the legislative body of the country calls on the government to demand the launch of the political process for the final settlement of the Nagorno Karabakh (NK) status, supporting the efforts of the OSCE Minsk Group Co-Chairs. The resolution records the occupation of the NK territories by Azerbaijan, the absence of the security guarantees of the population on the occupied territories, and calls on to apply preventive measures towards the persons in Azerbaijan, who spread violence and hatred towards Armenians, as well as to ensure the protection of the Armenian cultural heritage.

Sona Ghazaryan has highlighted Armenia-Luxembourg developing relations: its evidence is also the visits of the Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan, as well as the Minister of Foreign Affairs Ararat Mirzoyan on January 24, 2022 and their delegation.

The Head of the delegation also emphasized the bilateral parliamentary relations and the cooperation on other international platforms, as the PACE, the OSCE and the Francophonie.

Welcoming the delegation, Speaker of Parliament Fernand Etgen registered the successful procedure of the democratic process in the Republic of Armenia, citing the resolution adopted in PACE on the previous week. The President of the Chamber of Deputies highly valued the democratic path of overcoming the domestic crisis. Fernand Etgen also touched upon the settlement of the Nagorno Karabakh conflict, noting the importance of resuming the peaceful negotiations under the auspice of the OSCE Minsk Group Co-Chairmanship. The issues of the return of the illegally held persons by Azerbaijan were also referred to. The Speaker of Parliament of Luxembourg highly appreciated the developing relations between the two countries.
