On 20 January the Minister of Justice of Armenia Rustam Badasyan received the Ambassador of the Kingdom of the Netherlands to Armenia Nicholas Schermers.

The Minister congratulated the Ambassador on his appointment, highlighting bilateral relations which entered a new stage after the Velvet Revolution in 2018 and the decision of the Netherlands to open an embassy in Armenia.

The Armenian Minister of Justice also praised the motions recently adopted by the Dutch parliament, that call for sanctions against the leaders of Azerbaijan and Turkey for war crimes committed in Artsakh. Ambassador Schmermers thanked for the meeting, emphasized  that he was delighted to accept the offer to assume a diplomatic mission in Armenia, and indicated the priorities of  cooperation: the rule of law and the strengthening of democracy.

Minister Badasyan presented to the Ambassador of the Netherlands the roadmap for judicial reform, and achievements that have already been obtained. Hereby he expressed the importance of the 9 million euro assistance provided by the European Union to the Government of Armenia in order to implement measures to this end.

Recalling  his visit to the Kingdom of the Netherlands in 2020 and the implementation of the agreements reached during that visit Minister Badasyan highly valued the negotiations on signing a cooperation agreement with Eurojust, the works carried out in the direction of establishing a document envisaging a legal framework for cooperation between the RA Police and "Europol".
