Stop Azerbaijani aggression against Armenia

After aggression against Armenia, the House of Representatives passed two motions for sanctions against Azerbaijan. The Armenian ambassador to our country, Tigran Balayan, asks for support against the aggression of his neighbor.

While the world's attention is focused on the crises, the fragile ceasefire that ended the recent Azerbaijani and Turkish aggression against the 150,000 Armenians of Artsakh (Nagorno-Karabakh) is unstable.

A month after the strike of hostilities, Azerbaijan launched another attack in which two villages were captured and 60 Armenian soldiers, in addition to 140 others, were captured. Repatriation is refused, despite the clear rules of international humanitarian law and the demands of, among others, the UN, EU, the European Court of Human Rights. The Azerbaijani dictator is starting to look like his Turkish mentor Erdogan and is clear about further plans.

The threats were made around the 106th anniversary of the genocide

Recently, Ilham Aliyev said: 'The creation of the Zangezur overflow is completely parallel to our national, historical and future interests. We implement this whether Armenia likes it or not. If she wants to, we will solve this easily, if she does not want to, we will solve it by force. ' Such statements damage the highly fragile regional peace and stability and reveal the false nature of recent Azerbaijani statements on peace and reconciliation.

It is noteworthy that such threats were made around the 106th anniversary of the Armenian Genocide, recently recognized by America. The Dutch government is expected to do the same, after almost unanimous support from the House of Representatives; only Denk was against. Another clear manifestation of the Azerbaijani ruler's true intentions is the recent opening of the so-called Military Trophy Park, labeled a genocide park with wax figures of ugly dying Armenians, with the aim of dehumanization. Just a year ago, I raised the alarm and warned that Aliyev is planning a war to divert attention from the crisis in Azerbaijan and consolidate his power. I'm doing this again.

The US elections and pandemic were exploited by Azerbaijan and Turkey to start the aggression in September, using Syrian jihadists and advanced weapons against civilians and hospitals. Now global tensions will allow the two dictators to start a new war and bring back "deep concern" and "regret" to those countries that have the toolkits to prevent it.

By passing two motions on sanctions against President Aliyev, his family and others, the House of Representatives has given the government the legal basis to register them under the EU's global human rights sanctions regime. It is now up to the Netherlands to act and prevent the new aggression against a democratic society that the Netherlands has helped to build in recent decades.
