Armenia attaches a high importance to the decision of Luxembourg's Parliament recognizing the Yezidi genocide

18 November, 2022

On November 18, 2022 Ambassador Tigran Balayan had separate meetings with Yves Cruchten, the Chairman of the Foreign Affairs Committee of the Luxembourg’s Parliament, Gusty Graas, the Head of delegations to OSCE PA, PACE, NATO PA of Luxembourg, member of the Green Party, MeP Charles Margue and MeP Laurent Mosar, Foreign Affairs Spokesperson of  Christian Socialist Party.

Expressing his gratitude for the adoption of a unanimously voted resolution recognizing the Yazidi genocide by the Parliament of Luxembourg, the ambassador handed over to the deputies a letter of gratitude from Mrs Sona Ghazaryan, the chairman of the Armenia-Luxembourgish parliamentary friendship group, and Mr Rustam Bakoyan, a MeP representing the Yezidi minority in Armenia.

The ambassador called the decision of the Parliament of Luxembourg as a clear step towards punishment of those responsible for the crime of genocide aimed at achieving justice and preventing the crimes against humanity.

  1. Balayan informed the parliamentarians that the Armenian Parliament was the first to recognize the Yazidi genocide back in 2018 and has assumed a leading role on the matter in the international arena.

The ambassador also thanked the MePs with regard to their statements expressing unconditional support to Armenia, condemning Azerbaijan's aggressive actions and calling to hold the aggressor responsible in their speeches during the debate of the  foreign policy issues held in the Parliament a few days ago.

Emphasizing the important role of the EU monitoring mission deployed on the Armenian-Azerbaijani border, both sides underlined the necessity of taking clear and consistent steps to preventing the provocative actions of the Azerbaijani leadership.
