Ambassador’s meeting with the spokesperson for Foreign Affairs of the Christian Democratic Party

On June 12, Ambassador Tigran Balayan met Martijn van Helvert, Dutch MP and spokesperson for Foreign Affairs of the Christian Democratic Party of the Netherlands.

While expressing his gratitude to the Dutch MP for being attentive to Armenia-related issues and for supporting the initiatives of broadening of the Dutch-Armenian relations, Ambassador Balayan stated that the motion of the Dutch House of Representatives to condemn Erdogan’s labelling statements about the victims of the Armenian genocide reaffirmed the commitment of the Netherlands and MPs to human rights and genocide prevention agenda.

Ambassador Balayan briefed Martijn van Helvert on large scale reforms currently being implemented by the Armenian government in judicial and legal systems, its anti-corruption agenda and efforts to ensure equal access of all to economic opportunities in the country.

The interlocutors exchanged views on the initiatives to expand cooperation between Armenia and the Netherlands and the necessity of parliamentary support for their implementation.
