Virtual meeting of the Diaspora High Commissioner

The next virtual meeting took place with Diaspora High Commissioner Zareh Sinanyan and the Armenian community of the Netherlands. The Ambassador of Armenia to the Netherlands Tigran Balayan, representatives from the educational, cultural, professional, and lobbying circles of the community took part in the video conference.

The Commissioner briefed the participants on the work of the office including the changes due to the pandemic noting that regardless of the situation, the “iGorts” program will be launched this year to involve the best specialists from the Diaspora in Armenia. Zareh Sinanyan informed that the "Step Towards Home“ program will be implemented this summer online, touching upon the steps taken to develop the repatriation process, speaking about the adoption of the relevant law and the establishment of the Center for the Integration of Repatriates.

Afterwards, Ambassador Balayan provided comprehensive information on the Armenian community in the Netherlands, noting the community is distinguished by its organization and determination. He stated they are able to maintain the Armenian stature, business and cultural standings while maintaining it’s integrity to be fully integrated into the life of the country. The Ambassador also touched upon the work carried out by community figures in the direction of preserving the Armenian identity, cultural initiatives, lobbying efforts, and charitable activities.

Afterwards, the participants discussed a wide range of issues with the Commissioner mainly related to mapping the potential of the Diaspora, military draft, professional cooperation, raising awareness of Armenian initiatives in the Diaspora, visa liberalization, and other issues within the Armenian Diaspora collaboration.
