Reception dedicated to the end of the diplomatic mission of the Ambassador Tigran Balayan in the Netherlands

27 July, 2023

On 27 July, a reception was held, dedicated to the end of the diplomatic mission of Tigran Balayan, Ambassador of Armenia to the Netherlands.

The reception was attended by high-level officials of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Netherlands, representatives of the parliament, diplomatic corps and a number of international organisations and courts located in The Hague, as well as representatives of business, educational, scientific and cultural circles, members of Armenian, Indian and Greek community organisations.

During the reception, Mr. Tigran Balayan, Ambassador of Armenia and Mr. Erik Weststrate, Head of the European Department of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Netherlands delivered remarks.

In his speech, T. Balayan emphasised that organising such an event in the circumstances, when Artsakh has been under illegal blockade for 7 months, was a difficult but important decision. It had the purpose of expressing gratitude to those, who during the almost five years of his tenure, contributed to the development of bilateral relations and the increase of the number of friends of Armenia in the Netherlands. The Ambassador referred to the multi-sectoral cooperation with the international institutions and courts located in The Hague, emphasising the importance of the documents signed with the Europol in June.

The Ambassador highlighted as achievements the opening of the Embassy of the Netherlands in Armenia, the exhibition “Under the Spell of Ararat: Treasures from Ancient Armenia” in Drents Museum, the sharp increase in trade and economic indicators, the entry of new Dutch companies into the Armenian market, the erection of an Armenian cross-stone in the garden of the Peace Palace in the framework of the official visit of the Prime Minister of Armenia, to symbolise the importance of peace for Armenia.

At the end of the speech, the Ambassador gave the floor to the Head of the European Department of the Dutch Foreign Ministry, expressing his deep gratitude for the exemplary cooperation and substantive involvement.

In his speech, Mr. Erik Weststrate, Head of the European Department of the Dutch MFA, mentioned that in recent years, the Armenian-Dutch bilateral cooperation has been brought to a new level and supplemented with new content and fields of collaboration.
