Ambassador designate Tigran Balayan’s meeting with the members of “Ani” Armenian community in St. Karapet Armenian church, Maastricht

On November 4, Tigran Balayan, the newly-appointed Ambassador of the Republic of Armenia to the Kingdom of Netherlands, met the members of “Ani” Armenian community in St. Karapet Armenian church, Maastricht.

During the meeting Levon Sarkis, the head of the community, presented the efforts of the community aimed at maintaining the Armenian identity in the state of Limburg, as well as the history of the church. Mr. Sarkis briefed the Ambassador designate on the community's ongoing and upcoming programs, the conditions of the current Sunday school, and the cooperation of the Armenian community with the local authorities.

The Ambassador designate Balayan presented the developments in Armenia after the velvet revolution, as well as the significance of holding parliamentary snap elections and the preparatory works of the latter. The newly-appointed Ambassador thoroughly touched upon Armenia’s foreign policy provisions, the main directions and priorities of the foreign policy, the efforts aimed at promoting the settlement of the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict, the importance of the international recognition of the Armenian Genocide, Armenia's initiatives on the prevention of crimes against humanity and a number of other issues.

Talking about the role and importance of the Armenian community, Tigran Balayan noted: "One of the important factors for the successful mission of an Armenian Ambassador is the support of the Armenian community, so I look forward to working with all of you because I believe each of you is an Armenian ambassador to his or her surroundings, neighborhood and workplace. I hope we will be many joint initiatives and achievements. "

During the meeting, Tigran Balayan and Counsellor Varazdat Pahlavuni answered the questions of the members of the community.
