On the occasion of the 50th anniversary of the International Organization of La Francophonie (OIF) and reflecting the desire of the French Ministry of Culture to place the year 2020 under the sign of the comic book, the French embassy of the French Netherlands, the Alliance Française de La Hague, the French High School Vincent van Gogh and the French Institute of the Netherlands, with the support of TV5 Monde, have joined together to present their event " The French comic book: an engaged art ".

In the presence of many ambassadors and representatives of French-speaking countries, the event opened byTigran Balayan, Ambassador of Armenia, Chairman of the Group of French-speaking Ambassadors in The Hague, attracted a large audience and met, this year again, a great success.

During the evening, the audience was able to appreciate the testimonies of famous illustrators such as Guy Delisle, Zeina Abirached, Emile Bravo or Emilie Plateau, and discover the vitality and diversity of the French-speaking creation of the 9th art.

The guests, journalists or experts from the French-speaking world presented their work as well as their intellectual and artistic approach through two round tables:

- BD, witness to reality and highlights of the issues of our time
- BD, look at history and memory duty

The evening was also an opportunity for the students of the French High School Vincent Van Gogh to present their reflection and creation on the theme of commitment.

The event, which made a full room, attracted nearly 300 spectators at the Pathé Buitenhof in The Hague. The evening extended around the traditional buffet of French-speaking embassy with multiple flavours, during which the public and speakers were able to exchange in a friendly French-speaking atmosphere.

A sale of books as well as an exhibition of comic boards and drawings were also offered, allowing authors to meet their audience in the Netherlands.
